A Story About The Magic Of Barter

By now millions of people have heard about the story of Kyle MacDonald, a 26-year old fellow from Montreal who had an Internet connection and one big red paper clip. His story has been written up in virtually every major newspaper around the globe.

As the story goes, this young visionary dreamed of using the community power of the Internet to barter that paper clip for something better, and then barter again for something else, and so on until he had obtained a house.

Kyle started trading his paper clip for a fish-shaped pen, then for a clay door knob, camping stove, a generator, etc. until he ultimately obtained a two story house in Kipling, Sask. Canada.

The real story here is the magic of barter because it shows the enormous opportunities when one barters.

People don’t just live off ones and zeros. They live with their dreams, aspirations, and what is important to them. Barter is so exciting because value is subjective, not objective. And the story of Kyle reinforces what I’ve continually talked about…wealth is not limited to just what you have in your bank account.

So what do you have to trade? Make a list and start today…and remember that value is subjective!
