Community Currency Expert Plans Include World Travel
May 14th, 2007 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsFrom Tom Greco: Correspondence with various colleagues and contacts over the past few months has resulted in several invitations to speak or collaborate in various parts of the world. In consideration of that, I have decided to vacate my Tucson residence and spend several months abroad. The work I will be doing, of
course, will relate to community economic development based on the implementation of exchange alternatives like mutual credit clearing and community currencies.
This is my agenda so far:
1. To start out with, I will be giving a presentation and moderating a panel
session at the BALLE pre-conference on Complementary Currency, which will be
held at U/C Berkeley on May 3, as reported in May 8 Tuesday Report.
While in the Bay area, I’ll also be meeting with the Sonoma County BALLE chapter about their developing plans to create a regional business-to-business credit clearing
association.
2. Early in June I’ll fly to China for meetings in Beijing and Shanghai, and
to give a presentation on community credit systems at a workshop of the
China Association of Social Workers.
3. At the end of June I’ll go to India. I have been invited to spend some
time at Auroville (http://www.auroville.com) in the state of Tamil Nadu near
Pondicherry and Madras. I’ll be working with colleagues I met there last
year to (a) develop curricula on economic development and exchange
alternatives for various educational levels, and (b) to map out a plan for a
regional mutual credit clearing system to be implemented in southern India.
4. I’ve also been invited to give a presentation at The International
Conference On Dinar Economy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is now slated
for the end of July. That event will feature a keynote speech by former
Prime Minister, Mahitar bin Mohammad.
While I have tentative plans to return to the U.S. around the middle of
September (via London), I consider this to be an open-ended tour that could
span several months. I’ll make Auroville my base and venture out from there.
I expect other possibilities to develop over the summer, and I’m open to
considering other possibilities where I might be of service in those parts
of the world.

Tom Greco was the keynote speaker at The International Reciprocal Trade Association Annual Convention/Congress in 2006. His comments focused on ways the commercial barter industry could move up to a higher level through the development of a single currency for the industry.
