Audi’s “Unusual Marketing Program” Was A Pure & Simple Barter Deal

May 30th, 2007 · by Bob Meyer · No Comments

A few years ago it was reported in the the Los Angeles Business Journal that “it seems like all the rich people are driving Audis lately!”

Well they were!—because Audi was running a rather unusual marketing program in Los Angeles.

Twenty-five “prominent L.A. leaders”—mainly celebrities, including Jerry Seinfeld, Quincy Jones, Jay Leno and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck—had been given new A8 luxury sedans to drive around town for a few weeks.

The drivers were supposed to fill out an evaluation form on the car when the test period ended. But Audi really just wanted them to tell their well-heeled friends about the machine.

This type of marketing effort has been used by many manufacturers, especially in the clothing field, including accessories.

What other examples can you think of? Please reply so we can share with our growing readership…thanks.
