Bold Predictions (By Noted Authorities) On The Future Of Oil Prices & Inflation Rates

September 16th, 2007 · by Bob Meyer · No Comments

Where are we headed in the days ahead? Two noted authorities look into their crystal balls…and what they forsee isn’t pretty…and will affect YOU greatly, regardless of what your occupation is…Here’s the scoop.

Oil at $150 Per Barrel

Lord Oxburgh, thr former chairman of Shell, has issued a stark warning that the price of oil could reach $150 per barrel within 20 years. (If the U.S. invades Iran the price would, within a matter of months reach $120 to $150 per barrel.)

Oxburgh accuses the oil industry of having its head “in the sand” about the depletion of supplies…and he said the major oil companies must invest more heavily in developing viable alternatives to oil & gas.

The International Energy Agency has forecast an oil supply crunch by 2012. Oxburgh’s comments were made prior to his address to the Association For The Study of Peak Oil, which is being held in Ireland this week.

Greenspan Sees Double-Digit Interest Rates In The Future

Alan Greenspan, 81, former U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman for 18-1/2 years, and the author of “Age Of Turbulence: Adventure In A New World,” looked toward the U.S. economic future and predicts that inflation will build in the next few years and that the Fed will have to force interest rates into double digits in order to keep inflation down.

Anyone who was around in 1979 and the early 1980s in the U.S. will remember those days of 14% annual inflation and interest rates of 18% to 20%. It wasn’t pretty and many disruptions occurred which hurt the entrepreneur and small business person.

The commercial barter industry wasn’t as developed as it is today, yet it provided a real service (lifeline) to many small business owners. I’m confident that barter–a proven business tool–will do the same in the days ahead.
