Barter Veteran Writes BarterNews, Talks Baseball
January 16th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsReceived a note from a long time barter veteran Tony Galovich. Tony was a member of TradeAmericanCard and BX when living in Orange County, Ca. We often would talk baseball at the various barter meetings. He had an extensive baseball card collection and was a wise, savvy trader. He now resides in Florida.
Hi Bob ……… How’s things in “Krazy Kalifornia?” I just found your Tuesday Barter Report last week. For some reason I thought you weren’t doing it any longer.
And your blog comment on Jim Bouton & Bazooka gum was cool. ARTICLE
If you guys told Topps to take a hike you would have changed the card market forever.
Topps sucks !!!
What they paid you guys for your rights was a total Joke !! (P.S. In the 60’s every major league player received the same amount–an annual check for $250.)
I recall Upper Deck paying Lebron James $5 million to put his likeness on basketball cards.
How times have changed!
Also you mentioned former New York Yankee batboy Bill Hongach, who is writing a book, as described on your blog article.
He invited me to a card show he held on a Thursday night, it was really weird,
but he had Ted Williams & Nolan Ryan siging autographs. I had them sign 10 dozen baseballs for me. But I recall they were not the friendliest people on earth.
They didn’t even talk to me the entire time they were signing! Pretty sad, they want your money but can’t even be friendly, if just to chat for a few minutes.
No wonder the public dislikes many pro athletes. Anyways they aren’t a class act like you.
You are an Ex-Yankee but you never used that fact to impress people.
That really impressed me about you. Anyways, I’ll stop here & hope all is well.
Tony Galovich
Thanks for your letter Tony. It’s always good to hear of one’s thoughts and perceptions as we go through this amazing journey called life. Regards, Bob Meyer
