March 9th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsEver thought about a Windjammer cruise on barter? We did, and then sent two staff members down to the Bahamas for a personal six-day adventure. One of the more popular stories we’ve published is in this issue, “An Inside Look At How The Media/Travel Barter Broker Works.” A lot of insights were not only provided, but some new ways were suggested of looking at both sides of the equation.
Trader Drew’s interesting article noted how barter is like a pool game.
A most informative interview is included with the sharp 43-year-old researcher Mike Gershman. He criss-crossed the country, spending 14 months conducting interviews and exhaustive research for his book, Smarter Barter. Gershman offered a candid look at barter—the trillion-dollar way of doing business.
President Leo Welt, of export company Welt International, authored a comprehensive article titled “Unconventional Forms Of Financing: Barter And Countertrade.” And James Stout wrote how bartering can help investors reach their financial dreams.
Gemcutter Paul Durand provided another excellent piece, “Bartering for Gemstones.”
Canadian John Madsen, a chartered public accountant and trade exchange owner from Vancouver, shared his expertise in the terrific piece, “How To Use A Barter Audit To Increase Your Gross Revenue.”
You’ll find the proposed barter exchange licensing bill that was debated by the industry. Exchange owner Gary Monkman of Chicago, debated Terry Neal, the founder of ITEX (Portland, Or.) on the hotly discussed bill.
Steve Webster added an thoughtful article on the business of barter. And the results of a BarterNews questionnaire provided a profile of the average trade exchange (barter company).
