Here’s a look at some past international deals from the pages of BarterNews.com…

Bulgaria is collecting on its debts ($10.5 billion) with foreign countries through countertrade by taking wheat and petroleum products.

France has renewed its countertrade arrangement with Cuba, purchasing sugar in exchange for wheat, milk products, spare parts and agricultural equipment totaling $140 million.

Indonesia has agreed to supply aircraft to Croatia in exchange for fishing boats.

The New Zealand Dairy Board is trading with Iran wherein they provide dairy products for crude oil.

Moldova is exchanging wine for pharmaceuticals from Belgium.

Russia is trading MiG-29 fighters to the Philippines for bananas and sugar.

A new gas pipeline of 2,400 miles (from Siberia to Western Europe) is being built and paid for with the sale of gas, once the pipeline is working.

A steel mill in Russia is being built by a German company, and payment will be in steel from the completed plant.

The Japanese are providing some $500 million of financing to develop vast forest reserves in Russia and repayment will be in timber, which will be supplied to Japanese trading houses.

Another Russian effort sees some 400,000 tons of grain being traded to Uzbekistan for cotton fiber.
