Customer Share Will Become More Important Than Market Share!
March 30th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsThe business book, Enterprise One To One by Don Peppers and Martha Rogers, looks at a new business philosophy—instead of selling one product at a time to as many customers as possible, the goal of the one-to-one marketer is to sell one customer as many products as possible, over the lifetime of that customer’s patronage.
The authors argue that mass marketing was an industrial-age approach to selling finished goods. In this new information age, mass customization and individualized communications are economical.
While a trade exchange is a good example of a one-to-one marketer trying to find products and services for that customer, it’s very likely—when you stop to think about it—that your company can operate along the same lines.
For example, printers have historically believed that it was necessary to specialize in order to offer the best quality, price and service.
Today, as presses become more controllable and predictable, the need for manufacturing specialization is reduced.
And as digitalization increases, it makes increasing sense for print buyers to deal with a single supplier which can take any and all of their digital files, and output them as required—whether for print or non-print media such as web pages on the Internet.
How Many Of These Marketing Methods Are You Using?
