Bill Gates & Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Know The Value Of Barter
April 9th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsHere is another example of why the world’s richest man, Bill Gates, and the world’s 8th richest man, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, are so successful. They’re always thinking ahead.
A year ago Microsoft Chariman Bill Gates and Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, along with Four Seasons hotels chief executive officer, agreed to have the Four Seasons hotels be taken private.
Four Seasons operate in 31 countries, and Four Seasons hotels make up four of the top 10 hotel properties in the world, as ranked by Conde Nast Travel magazine.
Alwaleed is Four Seasons’ biggest shareholder with 22% ownership of the company. The Gates Foundation is the fifth-biggest holder.
Gates and Alwaleed had been collaborating for at least two years. And what Gates and Alwaleed will eventually gain from this transaction, in an IPO years from now, remains to be seen.
But Gates, has already benefited from the interchange, because, after dining at Gates’s home in early 2004, Alwaleed agreed to explore ways to assist Microsoft’s expansion in Saudi Arabia. In other words, “help me complete the Four Seasons transaction and I’ll assist you in your expansion into my country.”
When putting your transactions together are you too looking for ways to make an agreement even more profitable? Follow the example of these two brilliant men, (and superb negotiators) in all of your business efforts.
