(BarterNews #27) What Credit Managers Should know About Barter
April 10th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsOur cover story for this issue contained several articles. One was the exceptional keynote address given by Susan Groenwald at IRTA’s 13th Annual Convention, “The Ten Keys To Profitability In The Barter Business.”
Matt O’Hayer’s banquet speech was outstanding, too, “What’s Kept The Trade Exchange Industry From Taking Hold And Reaching It’s Potential.” The 36-year-old O’Hayer had just concluded a $1.7 million office lease on full trade for his headquarters!
Les French, president-elect of NATE, editorialized about the need for character and follow-through within the industry. We also took a look at the state of entrepreneurship in the 1990s, including Bill Gates’ take on the subject.
In our Corporate Barter Section, Bill Steinberg, president and CEO of Tradewell, shared his uncommon success in structuring a $30 million tourism-for-media deal with the government of Brazil. Two other terrific stories in the section were “What Credit Managers Should Know About Barter” and “Exploring Barter’s Newest Frontier—Barter Leasing.”
Our countertrade section reported on the “U.S. Tax Consequences Of Cross-Border Barter Transactions.” And C. Allan Urban, a 17-year countertrade veteran with United Technologies, shared his expertise regarding “Offsets In The Aerospace Industry.”
We concluded this issue with a piece by Lester Thurow, dean of MIT’s Sloan School of Management, titled, “America’s Role In The Post-Cold War Era.”
