What Hotels Pay Maids To Clean Rooms

April 11th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No Comments

I was reading Portfolio this morning and came across this interesting comment by Joe Brancatelli who writes a “Business Travel Column” for Portfolio, an excellent magazine.

According to Brancatelli hotels pay maids 1/2 cent per square foot to clean a hotel room. I don’t know about you, but over the years I’ve stayed in hotel rooms that would approximate 400 sq. feet (20 ft. x 20 ft.). Considering these statistics, that means a payment to the maid of $2!

Maybe the variable cost of bartering a room really isn’t $15 ( a figure often used) but even less.
