April 15th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No CommentsVictor Ives, a 30-year veteran broadcaster, picked up where he left off in Issue #23 with his exceptional article, “Media Trading—Part 2.” Ives presented the keys to successful media trading in a most convincing manner.
We looked at Jack Schacht’s Illinois Trade Association, the largest independent trade exchange in the U.S., and how he had built an outstanding sales team. Also included was the story on “Restaurant Trading” in which Schacht contends, “The education process has become one of the most important client services that can be offered to a restaurateur.”
A new section, “The Best and the Brightest Barter,” provided illustrative examples of how the rich and famous used barter to build their wealth.
Our Corporate Barter Section zeroed in on “Corporate Trade Company Practices And The SEC.” We also explained how Capital Cities, owner of the ABC-TV network, bartered its TV time for equity in emerging companies—a most exciting endeavor because of the leveraged payoff possibilities.
Other articles in this section included, “Disputes About Barter Transactions Can Be Resolved Privately,” and “How To Value Land For Bartering Purposes.” Plus we revealed how Robert Martin, a major real estate developer, launched its barter financial services.
We outlined how Lufthansa German Airlines creatively bartered its way out of an onerous lease, and reprinted William Steinberg’s keynote speech at the Corporate Trade Council’s spring meeting.
In the Countertrade Section there were seven different stories centered on Asia.
