Our cover story looked at the national survey conducted by a prestigious university in which statistics showed that hoteliers do indeed embrace barter. Also provided were two excellent articles, “Why Should Your Hotel Barter?” and “How To Evaluate Your First Draft Of A Barter Contract.”

It was in this issue were we dissected the FASB ruling Issue No. 93-11 that would change how the corporate world can use barter credits.

At the IRTA convention, the keynote speaker was Midge Tyner, IRTA’s Corporate Trade Council President. She shared her thoughts about why she believes barter activity will explode.

In our Countertrade Section we revealed “10 Lessons In The Art Of The International Deal,” as well as “A Strategy For Pro-Active Countertrade.”

The Trade Exchange Section reported on IRTA’s 16th Annual Convention held at the famed Boca Raton Resort & Club. With 226 attendees, it had the largest turnout in the history of the organization.

Other articles in the Trade Exchange Section included a look at the largest barter trade show ever staged, how to trade one’s home for a great vacation, and Illinois Trade Association’s showroom sales totaling $300,000 a month.

Do-er’s Dossier interviewed Don Mardak, president of Continental Trade Exchange. Susan Groenwald provided her observations on “Trade For Travel: The New Alternative For Business On The Move.” And we sadly noted that BXI founder Mac McConnell succumbed to cancer at age 74.
