A Yankee Stadium Visit Will Be Nearly Priceless!

December 18th, 2008 · by Bob Meyer · No Comments

The last time I sat in box seats behind home plate in Yankee stadium was in September, 1963. I had just finished the AAA season at Richmond in the International League, the Yankees top farm club. And I was in New York to have the Yankees terrific Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sidney Gaynor, perform an operation for torn cartilage on my right knee.

Surgery was scheduled later in the week and so I took in a couple of the ball games at the Stadium. At one of the games I watched another surgeon in his own right, at work–Whitey Ford. He made pitching look so easy, as all the great ones do.

Little did I know at the time, that some 46 years later, such a seat at the Stadium would be “nearly priceless” as the Mastercard ad suggests. But in reading yesterday’s Los Angeles Times that’s what great box seats at the new Yankee Stadium next year will be.

Incredibly, the most expensive seats at the new ball park in 2009 will be $2,500 a game! If you want four season tickets close to the plate it will cost you $810,000! (And that doesn’t count the playoffs or the Series.) I think I’ll be quite content watching the Bronx Bombers on the TV, thank you!
