Our cover story interview was with David Wallach, the president and CEO of ValueCard. Based in San Francisco, ValueCard had garnered a large media bank which fueled some of San Francisco’s finest restaurants (125 restaurants were members and serviced the system). With a base of 2,700 members, Wallach was busy pursuing his goals of acquiring nearby exchanges.

This issue covered three conventions. The BXI national convention hosted by the Brandfasses in Phoenix, the ITEX national convention in Portland, and NATE’s 13th Annual Convention in Florida at which the membership debated the merging of NATE and IRTA…NATE ultimately voted it down.

Noted author Harvey Mackay was on the cover of this issue. In his writings he affirmed that “barter is the smartest, most cost-effective form of corporate networking there is.”

“The Best and the Brightest Barter” section had nine mini-stories on the famous who embrace barter to build their wealth.

We have several terrific articles in this issue #40 of BarterNews…

A 10-page cover story on how a young pubic company used barter to propel its dynamic growth was the feature of this issue. We interviewed 44-year-old CEO Chester Billingsley, a brilliant guy with a Harvard MBA in Applied Physics. He was a runner-up for Rhodes Scholar, attended West Point, and as a young manager at General Electric was responsible for their Asian operations.

We discussed a wide variety of topics including taking a company public, growth through acquisitions, and how Billingsley utilized barter as a tangent in structuring good transactions and investments.
