The International Reciprocal Trade Association’s 29th Annual Convention will be held September 22 through September 25, 2008 at the Westgate River Ranch Resort, near Orlando, Florida.

Representatives from domestic and international corporate and retail trade exchanges, as well as local and community currency systems will be in attendance.

Issue #45 of BarterNews, published in 1998, had a fascinating cover story devoted to the merging of two of Australia’s independent trade exchanges. The owners, experienced despite their youth, were eager to establish Australia’s largest independent-owned exchange, called Trade Limited. It’s a spellbinding story and a great read!

I flew down to Australia and spent a week with the companies as they held their historic joint meeting of all employees–together for a week of business and social functions. The four principals were a most interesting group: David Johnstone, age 35; John Saunig, 40; John Attridge 40; and Mark Pryke 34.

International Monetary Systems, Ltd. (OTCBB:INLM), has exercised its option to purchase New York Commerce Group (NYCG), formerly known as Barter Advantage.

Back in September of 2006, Don Mardak, CEO of International Monetary Systems, aka IMS Barter, entered into an option agreement to acquire the assets of NYCG, aka Barter Advantage. The companies have operated as affiliates working under a revenue-sharing arrangement prior to the completion of the option.
